Review: Whamisa Apple Sebum Treatment

Heat, sun, and humidity sound all wonderful when lying on the beach. While summer is a bliss for the mind and spirit, your skin might not feel the same way. The warmer, humid weather stimulates oil production and, as a result, your skin will feel oilier than usual. Someone once said every summer has a story and it’s true. But for those with oily and combination skin, that story comes with excessive shine, melting makeup, and clogged pores. In order to keep enjoying the season (we counted down the minutes till these sunny days!), it is absolutely important to minimize sebum production and cleanse your skin thoroughly. That is why I want to introduce you to the Whamisa Organic Flowers Apple Sebum Treatment (€27), a new best friend that found a fixed place in my Korean skin care routine.

The Whamisa Apple Sebum Treatment lotion is a novel way to purify your face because it combines everything oil-control products were not able to achieve. It keeps oil at a bay, hydrates, and brightens the skin, while soothing any eventual redness. It answers a long wish of those who did not enjoy the plasticized look and dehydrated feeling left behind by mattifying formulas. Until now, most oil-control products were astringent, a true disservice to our troubled skin (no, thanks, I won’t be pouring pure alcohol on my whole face) or unable to provide more than just a mattified look. Glowing skin that looks naturally healthy is what Koreans have been praising for a long time (for all skin types, no exceptions). But where dryer skin types work on enhancing their glow, oilier types struggle to reduce excessive slickness. Words like nourishing, natural oils, and shine made me shiver before I was introduced to K-beauty.

In the ideal world, my oily skin would be treated with love by an oil-control lotion that mattifies and hydrates, telling my workaholic sebaceous glands to take a break. This simple idea is embodied elegantly in the Whamisa Organic Flowers/Apple Sebum Treatment, crafted through natural fermentation. As you know, fermentation is a magical way to transform skin care ingredients, boosting their effects and making them easier to absorb. Whamisa’s bird’s-eye view comprehends the complexity of oily and combination skin types and treats it in the most loving way. The organic and all-natural formula makes a world of difference to our troubled skin and comes packed with additional long-term benefits.

This lotion goes very well after cleansing and toning. My skin drinks it all up in the blink of an eye. The product provides immediate relief and is quick at soothing redness caused by the heat. After gently tapping a few pumps all over my face, my skin is left supple and velvety smooth, which is very exceptional for sebum treatment lotions. The color is slightly green and the lotion feels almost airy, so light it is. The subtle scent reminds me of green apples. No shine, no stickiness, no itchy feeling. I could almost hear my skin saying “thank you”.

There is no clear indication of when you should apply the product, but given the ingredient list and the texture, I would recommend using this as an essence or serum, if you plan to follow up with a suitable moisturizer. If you want to skip the moisturizer, however, this still delivers enough moisture for your daytime routine (if you have combination skin though, you will need to apply an extra hydrating solution to your dry areas). Normal and dry skin types, this is not the product for you. Finally, this is not an acne treatment either, but rather a lotion to balance your oily and combination skin. If your acne is alive and kicking, focus on controlling that first with the help of anti-acne solutions

You will fall in love with this product if:

  • You have oily or combination skin;
  • You want to minimize sebum and achieve glowing skin
  • Your acne is no longer active and breakouts are sporadic events
  • You want to prevent blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples

I have been trying mattifying and oil-control lotions for over 10 years and was always partly satisfied at most. But this is different. The Whamisa Organic Flowers/Apple Sebum Treatment is the kind of product I wish I could have presented to the 15-year-old me. And I would be using it until today. Thanks, Korean skin care!
