Love of centella | Review: Pureheal's Centella 65 Green Tea Pack

Most skincare are a long-term investment. You apply it, hope it will deliver what it promises, go to bed dreaming of glowing skin, and wait a few weeks until you can call it a winner (or not). But wash off masks offer a better level of enjoyment: you can tell right away whether it’s working. You can imagine my enthusiasm when Pureheal’s Centella 65 Green Tea Pack landed at Honeysu. I’m all into masks and there will always be room for my sheet masks in my routine, but I can’t say there wasn’t a craving inside me for a healing mask. Now, there are a few ingredients that work like a charm in purifying pores. Clay and charcoal are examples of actives that will help your skin get rid of “installed” gunk. These masks will too help with inflammation. But if you have sensitive, acne-prone skin, then you are probably hoping that by now someone figured out that you need BOTH functions: pore cleansing and healing results. That’s what got my eyes into this mask from Pureheal’s. They got the message and decided to come up with a product which quickly became one of my favorite skincare products of all.

A few years ago, a mask changed the world of mask and the life of all mask lovers out there forever and for good. Yes, it was THAT big. GlamGlow was a total game changer. One of the clever things the people behind GlamGlow realized was that people wanted to have multifunctioning masks. Another things was that people did like to see the real deal inside the formula. It’s like eating soup with pieces of vegetables. It just feels so REAL. But what you may not know is that way before GlamGlow was making their ultra-popular masks, Koreans were all about glamglowing. You get the picture, multitasking wash off masks with beautiful (and real-size) ingredients were a thing before we had our mask revolution in the West. And since then Kbeauty has kept on improving its game. Pureheal’s Centella 65 Green Tea Pack is a result of this consolidated knowledge with a twist of high tech.

Ingredient mojo

The first outstanding fact about this mask is the concentration of centella asiatica. Yep, a whopping 65%! Pureheal’s has an entire line dedicated to centella asiatica, a prevalent ingredients in Kbeauty – but still rare here in Europe. Dare I say centella asiatica is my 2018 obsession? Just did it. Introducing centella asiatica in my routine has given me two things I had longed for: redness control and repair. My skin is easily affected by weather changes, and no matter how much I care for it, dry winter can drive it insane. Read patchy, dry, red – a total mess. The closes ingredient to centella asiatica that I can think of is snail mucin. The two are comparable in many ways: both promote skin regeneration and hydration, strengthening the skin’s natural barrier. The main difference is that by using centella asiatica, you are using plant-based ingredients (#love)!

A bit of science on Centella Asiatica for the skincare lovers out there:

“Centella asiatica (CA) is a very important medicinal herb used in the orient[4], which is also becoming popular in the West[5]. Commonly known as mandukparni or Indian pennywort or jalbrahmi, it has been used as a medicine in the Ayurvedic tradition of India for thousands of years and listed in the historic ‘Sushruta Samhita’, an ancient Indian medical text[6,7]. The herb is also used by the people of Java and other Indonesian islands. In China, known as gotu kola, it is one of the reported “miracle elixirs of life” known over 2000 years ago” Gohil, K. J., Patel, J. A., & Gajjar, A. K. (2010). Pharmacological Review on Centella asiatica: A Potential Herbal Cure-all. Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 72(5), 546–556.

Pureheal’s Centella 65 Green Tea Pack adds other star ingredients such as green tea, clay, and flower oils to the mix and the result is a slice of heaven for our sensitive skins. Green tea is a soothing darling, and it will certainly help alleviating redness for those who have persistent flushes. It is also an effective ingredient against inflammation, reducing the concentration and life of bacteria on our skin. Green tea is part of traditional medicine and skincare in east Asia, and modern formulas have brought these loved leaves to the 21th century.

The special bits

Now to the experience. One of the differentials of this mask is its texture. Clay masks tend to dry off rather quickly – and dry out your skin. That’s a big no, no when dealing with sensitive skin. A thin, vulnerable skin barrier fears aggression, and my skin needs a mask that will respect its limits. This mask DOES NOT DRY OUT. And that’s a huge relief. The package comes with a cute little spatula, but using your fingers to spread it right is certainly recommended. I love how soothing and creamy this feels. Skin temperature is a BIG issue for sensitive skin. Have you noticed how a cold breeze can send your flushes to the North Pole? So bear with me. When you apply something this cooling, is truly like drinking lemonade on a hot summer day. It goes right into your soul. Aside from cooling, the mask itself performs brilliantly. Leave it on for 10min and rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid rubbing your skin at this moment. Gentle motions, always. And finalize with cold water because temperature is everything. That will also help with closing the pores, what is always welcome. If you are dealing with breakouts and blackheads, you’ll notice how these are immediately diminished. Redness is simply GONE. You can use this mask weekly (and you should definitely try it as a spot treatment whenever an angry pimple shows up!), or whenever you’re in the mood to treat yourself.

Final thoughts

Although being da bomb for sensitive and acne-prone skin, this mask is equally wonderful for those with dry, sensitive skin. Pretty much any skin type can benefit from am healing and purifying mask, right? The best part: my skin was left ultra-super-master-über soft. I like applying a sheet mask right after to give my skin an extra shot of love and call it a weekend. It’s the best thing I’ve been doing to my skin these days.

Pureheal’s Centella 65 Green Tea Pack is a total winner:

  • if you are looking for a way to diminish redness and inflammation
  • if you want to remove blackheads, whiteheads, and all that in a gentle and progressive manner
  • if you are into plant-based and ultra quality ingredients
  • if you want that pick me up treatment that is right there to rescue your skin, no matter what
