Korean skincare has become an essential part of the daily routine among many women all over the world. They credit the K-beauty products that they use and the multi-step process involved to achieve a bright and dewy skin. Not everyone is aware of the benefits of Korean skincare, and others are put off by the idea that t's something way too exotic. But hang on there. It's much simpler than you think.
Korean skincare or K-beauty is founded on, let's say, 3 principles:
In short, that means Koreans know their skincare products, adapt their routine to fit their daily needs, and focus on skin conditioning (which will save you from worrying about a way to lessen that stubborn wrinkle later in life).
For those who are not sure about what this all means, we will debunk a few myths about Korean skincare along with tips on how to take better care of your skin, the Korean way.
Truth: Korean skincare has become a popular trend in the beauty industry today along with the infamous 10-Step Korean Beauty Routine. However, most people shun the idea of following this because it’s intimidating – the idea of using ten or more different skincare products everyday can be very time-consuming, but it only takes 10-15 minutes for all steps and, if you focus on the basics, it may even take lesser time!
What most people fail to realize is that the Korean skincare regimen is not set in stone; the number of steps and the skincare products to use depend on the skin type that an individual has. You just have to lean on the basics: cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and applying a generous amount of sunscreen. After these, you may opt to add more steps to your regimen, such as sheet masks which you can use twice a week. Once you incorporate these into your daily routine, taking care of your skin will just seem like second nature to you!

Truth: While there are many skincare products containing harmful ingredients that are stealthily making their way out in the market today, the products available at Honeysu have been handpicked for their safety and high concentration of natural ingredients and non-irritating ingredients! Fermented skincare is an excellent example – it naturally exfoliates dead skin cells and contains anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients which can help rejuvenate the skin.
You don’t have to be an expert in Chemistry to be aware of what could be harmful to your skin. Be on the lookout for skincare products which do not contain chemicals such as triethanolamine, BHT, and hydroquinone. Also choose products which are specifically formulated for delicate skin – you’ll have lots of options with this. Honeysū has a wide variety of Korean skincare products that are free from harmful and irritating ingredients so you won’t have to worry about skin damage.
Truth: Washing your face is the most basic skincare and hygienic practice that you have to learn even before you get to wear your training bras. Most women think that washing their faces with water and just any cleanser is alright – as long as it has the word ‘cleanser’ in the label, then you’re doing it correctly, right? Wrong.
Everyone has a different skin type and there are also different types of cleansers that cater to the needs of each skin. The key to correct facial care is choosing the correct type of cleanser suited for your skin: whether it’s oily, dry, or a combination of both. Make it a point to cleanse your face every night, especially when you’re wearing make-up or exposed to pollution during the day. However, don’t overdo it – excessive face washing will strip your skin off of its natural oils (which is called sebum) and cause it to produce more that could result to acne.

Truth: People may think that they’re invincible under the sun as long as they’re using sunscreen, but it could bring long-term damage to the skin and ultimately, to their health. Even if its purpose is to prevent UVA and UVB rays from penetrating the skin, you must reapply sunscreen throughout the day. The common misconception that Koreans have porcelain skin because of their ‘good genes’ isn’t true; they are simply dedicated to taking care of their skin and follow a strict use of sunscreen daily (that means no unsafe tanning).
Take extra precautions to protect your skin from early aging and skin cancer from excessive sun exposure by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. Avoid going out between 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM when the sun’s heat is the most intense, but if it’s unavoidable, cover up your exposed skin which includes your arms, legs, and scalp. Reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours especially if you’re taking a dip at the pool or if you sweat profusely.
